Special Consignments

Right then. This is the bit where we talk about special consignments.

What are they? Why are they special? Who delivers them and how? That sort of thing.

First off, let's talk about the special consignments we sameday couriers handle. We're not just talking about your run of the mill Amazon stuff here. We are masters of handling high value, time critical and fragile loads. Think medical supplies, legal documents, watches, ashes of passed loved ones and anything else that has an iota of value. Please do note value is not always in monetary terms.

Some examples below.

  • The most fragile item we have ever delivered was a single puff pastry. It was actually a very strange request for us which meant we really had to think about how we transport it without any risk of it breaking. It was being sent to a large bakery type place where they inspect it, test it and order a batch if it passes their criteria. Our job was to get it 200 miles across the country in one piece. Needless to say, we were glad once it was delivered.
  • The most awkward item was a jet turbine. It was incredibly heavy but overall small for its weight. It took us by surprise. Although not as surprised to learn that the previous carrier never used straps to hold it in place. They relied on the weight of the box to simply not move.
  • We have delivered into hospital theatres, the law courts on the day of trial (talk about last minute!), schools, building sites and at one point to a train station where a train had broken down awaiting urgent parts.
  • Occasionally a courier will need to enter your premises, pick a part from your inventory, sign it out and deliver it to field engineer. We get this. It’s not the first time we’ve been trusted to enter premises full of valuable items alone and it won’t be the last.
  • Confidential deliveries? We collect from point A and deliver to point B ensuring there is nothing on any packaging or paperwork that can identify the place of origin.
  • Delivering to named people only? Yep. Got that covered too. Although we do request that we are informed about the nature of the consignment before booking us. We really don’t want to be the people breaking the news about an incoming divorce when the other party has no idea. It isn’t fair on us ☹
  • Single customer multidrop? Where we collect a number of consignments from point A and deliver them to point B, C, D and more utilising route mapping software to ensure that the route selected is the most sensible taking into account the timed nature of the deliveries and also our carbon footprint whilst carrying out the work.
  • Field engineer meet ups. This is where we meet engineers at a designated time and place to hand over any parts they need to conduct their task. Sometimes this is pre-planned and occasionally ad-hoc.

Now, let's tackle the risks and duties that come with the territory. Managing specialised consignments isn't for the faint of hearted. Sameday couriers take on the responsibility of ensuring that precious cargo reaches its destination safely and on time. That means navigating through traffic jams, adverse weather conditions and tight deadlines like pros. This also means securing the goods to the vehicle in readiness for an unpredictable journey. It's a high stakes game where communication is vital, but we couriers thrive under pressure. Let’s be realistic. We don’t have time to panic. We must deliver. Pun intended 😊

But enough about the risks—let's talk about what the rewards.

There is a subtle hint of self-pride when a consignment is delivered and rightly so! After all our team has successfully and safely collected, secured and delivered your consignment. All whilst communicating any delays or issues forward.

However, this is nothing in comparison to the thanks and good vibes we receive once successfully delivering something along the lines of emergency medical equipment, disaster relief supplies or even power generators. We end up receiving a hero’s welcome.

Ultimately, we the couriers are often the face your customer sees. So, ensure you choose well. There is a lot of competition, so it is okay to shop around to find the firm that you ‘gel’ with.

Get in touch, tell us about your needs and requirements. Let’s see if we can assist.

Let’s talk.
