I done it!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The day went just as I hoped. I wanted to end up in Wales and here I am. I love the place. Wales is the type of partner you don\u2019t want to live with but just love visiting. All the good views and interesting conversation, none of the arguments over whose turn it is to do the washing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve decided to christen myself half Welsh. An honorary half Welshman. If you spend enough time somewhere, you earn a bit of it. My van certainly knows the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My self-imposed rules are simple. If the day\u2019s done and it\u2019s not absolutely freezing, then I need to explore. No point rushing back if you don&#8217;t have to. So that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019ve done. A slow drive home, taking whatever lane looks interesting, stopping anywhere that tickles my fancy. A track that leads to a viewpoint. A village with a pub that looks alright. I\u2019ll get home at some point. The motorway will still be there tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You want to know why I love it? The roads are properly windy. Not just a bend or two. They twist and turn like they&#8217;ve got something to prove. You have to drive the thing, not just steer it. And the views are stunning all year round. I&#8217;ve seen it in summer when the hills are a stupid shade of green and in winter when the mist sits in the valleys like smoke. It&#8217;s never a rubbish backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The locals are incredibly friendly. Ask for directions and you&#8217;ll get a proper answer and maybe a bit of local gossip. Generally, you won\u2019t find a McDonald\u2019s or any other chain unless you are in a major city. But the small cafes and delis more than make up for it. The food&#8217;s better. You get a proper bacon sandwich made by someone who cares, not a plastic-wrapped thing from a heat rack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, those brilliant, windy roads. They are fantastic fun to attack after hours when the van&#8217;s empty. You can get a proper rhythm going. But listen, don&#8217;t go breaking any laws. The police have zero tolerance. They know the roads are fun, and they know people test them. They\u2019re not messing about. Enjoy the drive, but keep it sensible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A quick note for any other couriers reading this: while there&#8217;s decent work going into deep Wales, there really isn&#8217;t much coming back out. You&#8217;ll often be running empty on the return leg. So price accordingly. Factor in that dead mileage, or you&#8217;ll be doing the most scenic charity run in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right, that&#8217;s me. I wish you all a brilliant weekend.
