Hey Transport folk. Especially those of you who are a bit dry at the moment, staring at a silent phone and a too-clean van. Listen up.
I have discovered a foolproof way of guaranteeing exceptionally well-paying work on a regular basis. It’s infallible. A proper system.
To start off with, you have to mentally accept that there isn’t any work. Really commit to it. Believe the diary is empty. Then, once you’re in that headspace, you say yes to all those things you’ve been putting off for ages. The stuff you usually dodge because ‘something might come in’.
Examples include, but aren’t limited to:
Important family functions that you ‘have’ to be at. Christenings. Your nan’s birthday tea. The works.
Promise your significant other that you’ll finally go to that amazing restaurant they’ve been wanting to go to for six months. Book it. Put it in ink.
Promise family or friends that you’ll go on that full-day outing. The zoo. The trek up a hill. The thing that requires a full, uninterrupted day. Make solid, concrete plans.
Do all this. Lock it in.
Now, here’s the magic part. When the time comes, when the day arrives and you definitely, absolutely cannot cancel or rearrange without serious consequences and genuine personal grief, the stars will align. The universe will sense your commitment to a social life and it will send the very best, highest-paying job right at you. The phone will ring with that perfect, urgent, can’t-possibly-refuse run. The one that solves all your cash flow problems in a single trip.
You are now faced with the classic transport dilemma. You’re standing there, holding two tickets to the zoo or staring at a restaurant reservation, while your phone buzzes with a job that would pay for the entire month. You have to weigh up the options and make a firm decision about what really matters to you. Money, or the fragile peace in your own home.
It’s not an enviable position to be in, but I’m sure most time-served transport folk have been there. You can’t make this stuff up. It’s like a law of physics.
So if you’re quiet, get planning. The busier your social diary, the busier your work diary will become. Guaranteed.
Ps. Happy Monday.
